YogaX = Yoga ouch

Will have to find some time this evening to do yoga. 3.6 mile run went well at lunch, time was 32:29. Feeling pretty good.
Oh, and weight was down to 188.4 this morning.

6:30pm
Soldiered through the whole 90 minutes of YogaX, sucked big time during but afterwards was great. Definitely getting more flexible. Or my spine has snapped.

7:15pm
Realized I forgot Abripper. So I just did it.
ooowwwww.

So sue me.

Slept in this morning, got up when the alarm went off, felt like I needed more rest so went back to bed. Will give the legs a break and pass on cycling and will do P90X Arms & Shoulders at lunch today. Weight's down to 190.6 which is a trend I'm happy to see.
Peas out!

Rocked Arms & Shoulders today, upped the weight and held my own straight through the bonus round. Hoping by tonight I'll be able to zip my own fly again.

Week 2 Day 2 - Plyotastic!

Did Plyo this morn, really enjoyed it. Have a 3.5 mile run for lunch, some abripperX and a little yogaX for this evening. Weight's down to 192 which is cool. Feel really good today. I'm finding that the cardioish workouts are great for working out soreness as well as burning calories and I'm kicking myself for neglecting the first time through. Live and learn.

3pm
Run went well, not sure of my time as my stopwatch went for a ride on the top of Wife's car. Found it later, still good!

7:30pm
AbripperX - Combat edition.
Same AbripperX but with a sugared up 4yr old practicing his 'death from above' techniques off the sofa onto you. Performance took a hit, in a matter of speaking.

Week 2 Day 1

Chest and Back again and I used more weight today than I ever have before. It felt good. My pull ups still suck, but I try to crank out as much as possible with a chair assist. One day I'll be able to do pull ups like the guys (and girls) on the video. One day.
Weight is still 194 but whatever. I feel really good today. Hope you do too.

9pm
I am worn slap out. Completely out of gas. Think this week I'll push FlabstripperX to Tues and Thurs and see how that goes.

WTF

194.2 pounds this morning. Up around 8 pounds in one week. Wow. I have dropped an inch of my waist though, my ratios say I'm down from 23% BF to 20.2% I definately feel harder and thicker and I think the waist is less gooey. Who knows, maybe I'm supposed be bigger than I thought I was. I know I'm eating a lot better and (beyond the soreness) feeling a lot better. So I'll keep fighting the good fight and see what happens.

I am making a nutrition change, swapping out the 17oz Myoplex w/42g of protien for the Myoplex Lite (11oz) + 1 scoop of Whey protien to boost the protien to 43g. This will also drop my sodium intake by about 530mg a day. Save some $$$ too.

I'm going to do AbripperX this morning, last night my butt hurt too much. Also schedued is StretchX which I'm very much looking forward too, a tentative bike ride, and some additional yogaX practice.
Have a great day!

11am
Just finished StretchX and followed it up with Abripper. Let me just say if you're doing P90X and not utilizing StretchX, you're shooting yourself in the face. I mean, you're selling yourself short up the river. You catch my drift. I woke up a big ball of sore and hate and after StretchX I'm Mr Sunshine again.

And then, AbripperX.
I'm proud to report that SOMETHING must be going right, because I kicked the bottom out of Abripper today. Crushed Phifer scissors and completed all the Mason twists too. Need to work on making it pretty now but it sure is nice to see progress.

7:30pm
Did the first 30 minutes of YogaX, up to the first break. Intended to go on to for another 17 minutes but was interrupted (saved) by having to bathe the kids. I'm feeling better about it and am making progress. Hopefully before too long I'll be able to knock out all 90 minutes at one time and feel good about it. Hands down that is my most challenging workout.

Oh yeah, my bike ride turned into 45 minutes riding around in the cul-de-sac with the kids. Think I'm going to have to come up with a more structured plan for cycling. Maybe tomorrow I'll tweak the schedule a little. I'll keep you posted.

Saturday, January 26, 2008

Hate it when I'm right.

191.8 this morning. oh well. KenpoX rocked, I hung with the group all the way through. Have a 6 Mile run scheduled for when it hopefully gets above freezing today, a makeup Abripper session, and half of yogaX too. I'll keep you posted.
Oh yeah, the glutes are in wicked pain today. Especially when I sit down. Good times.

3pm
I feel like I spent all day yesterday cracking walnuts with my butt cheeks. Oh well, time to man up and do some roadwork. Temp's up to 43, probably as good as it's going to get today.

4:20pm
Well I survived it. Running up hill was not so great, felt like I was running in wet sand - required a lot more conscious effort than usual which I guess is just fatigue (plus added weight?). Got 6 miles run in 58:33 which is considerably slower than I usually do. I shouldn't complain, seems like the body's holding up so far. Time for a shower.

Week 1 Day 5

7am
Legs and Back wasn't as bad as I remembered. I guess tomorrow will tell, seems like every Saturday my legs and glutes were in agony last time through. Weight's up to 191 but my waist is a little smaller which according to the YMCA body fat calculator indicates that I'm getting trimmer. I'll take it. I'm reaching, but I'll take it.
It's 18 and windy - we'll have to see if the ride happens or not.

Myoplex is the wind beneath my wings. 'Nuff said.

Didn't eat very well today and had 4-5 Mich Lights at the neighbors' this afternoon/evening. Put off AbRipperX until tomorrow. Had fun and am still fired up, but expect to take a hit tomorrow.

Not Nice

YogaX pushed me down in the mud and took my lunch money today. I think I'm going to split that routine in half and start adding them to an evening workout. It was really quite ugly this morning. Chataranga = crash nose dive when the triceps are wasted. BTW, a good point to split YogaX is at 42:45.
Scale says 188.6, so that's good.
Have a 3 miler scheduled for lunch time, hope the weather's nice.
Have a great day!

1pm
Weather is not nice. 34 degrees and yet I was soaked when I got back. 3 Miles in 27:43

9:30pm
Don't think six hours of sleep is working for me. Going to officially back off to eight hours for a while and see how that works out.

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

owwwww

Hard to get up this morning. Not hard to wake up, just to physically get out of bed, rolling over was especially interesting. Eventually I got my head and chest flopped over the side and sorta penguin slid onto the carpet. After about 5 minutes I was able to pull myself up with the chest of drawers, using the drawers and handles as a makeshift ladder until I was more or less upright.
I'd like to say that I felt a lot better after the Shoulders and Arms workout, but I wouldn't want to report something that's not true.
Oh and I'm up two pounds from yesterday! Neato. 190, yay. great. whatever.

Meh, not that bad really. Sore but not unbearable. Workout this morning was a good one and I'm telling myself that my gains are actually 4 lbs of MUSCLE! It'll all work out.

1:30pm
13 Miles in 66 minutes on the Mtn bike. Nice out today! Actually feel a lot more human than I did this morning.

7:50pm
AbripperX. Got through everything but the Phifer scissors. About 75% there, did all 50 Mason twists. I'm feel pretty good about that! Only 37 AbripperX sessions to go!

Tuesday, January 22, 2008

All aboard the pain-train. TOOT TOOT

Oddly enough the Abs aren't talking this morning, maybe I just can't hear them over my screaming chest and back muscles. Today legs get in the act with Plyo this morning and a 3 mile run at lunch. Weight's up to 188, eating 5 times a day may take some getting used to.

7:07am
All right! Rocked Plyo this morning, even did the sports bonus at the end. I wonder how many calories that bad boy burns. I'm gonna guess about a million. Just kidding.

So 40 lbs of fat now. 8% body fat of a person weighing 167 pounds would be 13.33 pounds of fat. So I'd like to get rid of 26.6 pounds of fat. @3500 calories per, that's just under 100000 calories to burn off.

I can do that.

Did a 3 mile run today in 27:51, was *cold*

Day 1 - Fire it up!

Chest and Back, and it felt GOOD. Performance was better than I expected, not the same level as the end of the last time through but maybe 65-70%. I'll take it although my chin ups suck. Took a while for the the old bod to quit shaking enough to type, haven't felt that level of muscle fatigue since, well, the last time I was doing P90X.
I don't particularly like the P90 nutrition plan and will use a modified BFL plan instead. Had my first Myoplex. Two of those a day may get old, 3 may be out of the question. Have to see how that goes.

8:30pm
AB. RIPPER. X.
Bet I feel that in the morning.
Fiffer scissors and the oblique with leg raises kill me, got 30 Mason twists in, rested for 10 and did the last 10.

Sunday, January 20, 2008

Let's light this candle

I've been invited to a wedding at the beginning of April where I'll see most of my high school friends for the first time in many years. This is a little extra motivation so I'm kicking off P90X tomorrow instead of waiting until mid Feb. I'll be taking 'before' pix and getting everything ready today. According to this calculator I'm approximately 23% body fat. That's over 40 pounds of fat yall.
So, yeah. I've got my work cut out for me.

Saturday, January 19, 2008

Took advantage of a break in the weather and got the 5 miler done in 46:22. Knee feels okay but I put the brace on anyway.
Need to man up and get back to the 6 hour sleep routine. Been lazy.

Friday, January 18, 2008

Yesterday's run was okay, but I really don't care for the treadmill. Right now it's pretty boring and my times aren't even close to outside runs. I need to put a shelf up for a laptop or something. Probably aught to take care of that today since tomorrow is scheduled for 5 miles and the weather is supposed to be pretty cruddy here.

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

Not a great day, felt pretty run down so just watched diet today. Have another run scheduled for tomorrow and yesterday's went well. 2.5 miles in 22:11 - oddly enough my toes hurt like they were rubbed raw or something. I swear, I'm falling apart. Forgot about weighing in this morning so I'll catch that tomorrow too.

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

184 today. Two and a half mile run scheduled today. Think I'm working on a cold though.

Monday, January 14, 2008

185! Passed on Plyo this morning, my legs are pretty sore today. May give it a go at the lunch workout if they feel better.

Sunday, January 13, 2008

Not too bad today, did 15.5 in 83 minutes on the mtn bike. Followed the greenway trail until it ended then rode as far as I could along the trail that is yet to be 'improved'. Ever ride a bike through a swamp? Good times. Luckily I stopped before I got pitched into the muck. Have felt pretty worthless for the rest of the day. Think I'll go to bed a little early tonight.
Peace.

Saturday, January 12, 2008

4 miles!

Yeah, I know you're all whoopity-doo about it, but I'm very pleased. Knee feels fine and although it wasn't the fastest pace I've ever done, I'll certainly take it (35:37). Weight's just a little up, but that's cool. 186.4 if you're curious. Going to rest a bit today probably shoot for 15 -20 miles tomorrow, hope the weather holds.
Take care of yourself!

Friday, January 11, 2008

186! Burn baby, burn. My obliques/lower back are feeling rough today but otherwise feel pretty good.

Thursday, January 10, 2008

7:20am
Don't even remember turning off the alarm, will have to shuffle things around to get all the workouts in today. Good news is that I dropped a little more, this morning I'm 186.4.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

6:29am
Oh man last night sucked. Children up and running around, dog up to go out. Don't remember turning the alarm off. But end result is that I'm up an hour and a half late. I'll get the workouts in one way or another.
7:38am
Some progress! 187.2 this morning.

7:20pm
CoreX is a pretty thorough workout which will require more work to get through fully. Also rode 3 miles in the cul-de-sac with the kids in the afternoon. I think I'm starting to slough the results of last month's days of decandence and high living. Have a long way to go.

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

5:12am
I'm up, KenpoX time.

6:12am
Not real impressed with myself today, don't seem to have much juice this morning. Got halfway through the Kenpo and stopped. I'm pretty sore and felt like I was flailing around more than doing anything productive. Good flop sweat going though.
Sure would like to go back to bed. Maybe I'll just lay here on the floor for a few minutes. You don't mind do you?

7:06am
Exactly 1 week into it and I'm up half a pound from where I started to 188.8lbs. Crap. And I'm freakin' STARVING this morning.

8:55pm
Run went well but pushed off the 2nd AbripperX. I'm feeling pretty worn thin. (Ha ha, that's ironic.)

Monday, January 7, 2008

5:12am
Didn't want to get up this morning but here I am. PlyoX to start the day. Last week only got to the second break before having to stop but I intend to do better than that this time. I pushed back Abripper from yesterday to today, I think it'll fit the schedule better. Yesterday's bike ride was quite nice, took the Mtn bike for 10.5 through the new greenway trail. Very cool.
BTW, this is my favorite motivation vid right now. 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile ride, 26.4 mile run.

Maybe one day.

6:48am
PlyoX was pretty good today, hit the pause button for a few seconds once or twice but otherwise felt like I held my own. Got through the whole regular workout, next time will do the bonus. Also, weighed in at 188 again. Was sure it would be lower than that today. Oh well, hope to see better progress there soon.

Did I mention I'm drinking a gallon of water a day? Need to start wearing the pedometer and see how many miles I'm racking up going to the bathroom.

1:00pm
Wow, Xstretch is AWESOME! Really did myself a disservice by ignoring it in the fall. I've upped it to twice a week on the schedule. It really made me feel good!

8:08pm
Good feeling's gone. My midsection feels like hot coals. Hot angry coals. Hateful even. I think AbripperX is probably too tame a label for that workout. 'The Sodimizer' or maybe 'The Vominator' would be better. I'm going to go try and straighten up now.

Sunday, January 6, 2008

Sunday

Morning:
Not much to report today, down to 188 which I think is good. Number One Daughter has been indoctrinated into the cult of Webkinz, so I guess we'll be seeing more of her here in the lab. We'll have to see how that works out.

Got a ride and abripperx scheduled today, I'll let you know how that goes.

Saturday, January 5, 2008

Oh well, it was tasty!

So last night the neighbor wives took my wife out for her birthday and left the dads with the kids. In preparation for entertaining I got some some beer and (here's where I screwed up) a big bag of Fiery Habanero Doritos. Actually did fine with the beer and kept myself to two but the Doritos got NOM NOM NOM'd. Brother Ben brought some home made hot sauces (awesome) and things got out of hand. I'll spare you from the dreams I had, you're better off without that horror. :)
Anyway Mr Scale accuses me of being 189 today and I can't deny it. Will do better today.

In other news, I ran 3 miles this morning in 31:40, which I'm pretty happy of. Knee started talking about 2.6 in, but not more than a little ache. 10 minutes after I finished it seems fine.

Friday, January 4, 2008

Dang it.

5:15am
Well, at least I'm up. Scale says 188 which actually doesn't surprise me too much. Had a BMT salad from Subway for lunch yesterday. Last night I was looking at my nutritional history for the day and discovered I'd ingested almost 200% of my daily sodium allowance. Guess what was the biggest contributor? Yup, the freakin SALAD. I also had not met my fiber allowance or protein allowance. Going to rework the diet today, rapidly approaching a 'eat nothing I don't prepare myself' mentality.

Time to go kick up some CardioX! Stay tuned, hope to post some of my 'plans' today.

4pm
CardioX was good this morning and I feel pretty human this afternoon. The Pre-P90X weekly exercise schedule is HERE.

Thursday, January 3, 2008

Hi

5:20am
Surprisingly hard to get up this morning, still yawning like crazy. Starting the day with YogaX.

Weighed in at 187.4 this morning. I made a discovery yesterday - the chickpeas I've been using for hummus is way high in sodium, maybe I'm bloated from that.

Back later.

1:30pm
Pretty dang sore. Call me a Waaaaah-bulance. Some good news though, got my scheduled 1.5 run done in 15:08 with no noticeable discomfort. Really happy I held onto that treadmill, running outside when it's 28 degrees is not my idea of fun.

7:51pm
Just got my ass handed to me by AbripperX. Ouch. I guess the good news is that I won't meet my goals too soon or too easily - 'Cause what kind of fun would THAT be?

Wednesday, January 2, 2008

Thanks!

5:10am
I'm pretty sure that if it weren't for you I'd still be in bed. It's 29 degrees this morning and the wind is blowing pretty hard, I was quite warm and content when the alarm went off. I did hit snooze once then remembered you were here waiting so I got up and weighed in. Scale says 186.4 this morning which suggests to me that I've been eating too much salt and am carrying a good bit of water bloat. That's okay - This morning I'm doing the Plyometrics workout and that should burn off some goo.

Have a great day!

6:30am
Well, that was better than I expected but not as good as I hoped. Got through the 2nd break of Plyo before calling it good. Mighty sweaty and got a little dizzy there - it would seem that I'm woefully out of shape. Time to put the coffee on then grab a shower.

A New Beginning!

Failing to plan is like planning to fail.
I have a lot to commit to paper today, I'll keep you posted.
Beginning weight in '08: 188.4 (ouch)

Spent the day making notes, gathering tools, and generally getting ready, tried out the diet and feel it's pretty doable. Held my own for the first half of AbripperX - stopped before making myself miserably sore. Took my 'before' picture - Yikes. I am pretty fired up about 08, feel like I'm in a good place to make my fitness goals happen this year. I'll share the diet plan and weekly exercise schedule sometime next week after I've refined it a little. Right now I'm looking at a 5 meals a day with a lot of water, milk, protien (whey and tuna and chicken) and fruits and veggies. Only supplements I've got in mind to try are generic Multivitamin, Whey Protein (EAS), and Super Creatine (Body Fortress). Exercise will be 2-3 sessions a day, P90X (YogaX, Core, Kenpo, Plyo, Cardio, AbripperX, StretchX) and either a run or bike ride. Big run on Saturdays, big ride on Sundays. Sleep plan is straight 6 hours, 11pm to 5am including weekends. May play around with shifting start/end times and considering 5.5 at night and a polynap sometime during the day.
As I mentioned before, the left knee got pretty mangled on the 14 mile 'Simpson Death March' back at the end of October and I've pretty much left it alone entirely for the last 6 weeks or so. Last week I did a mile run (under 9 min) the day after a 12 mile bike ride. The knee held up fine even without a brace so I'm going to start easing back into running by doing short distances 3 times a week. Also planning on riding 3 times a week - again not big distance, and we'll see how it goes.

So here's to kicking ass in 08!
-Wes

Check out these Marathon Monks - this is nuts.
